21-year-old shot, killed at Deltona condo; suspected shooter in custody

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed early Monday at a Deltona condominium, according to sheriff’s officials.

The shooting was reported around 1 a.m. on Orchid Woods Court near Perimeter Drive.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, multiple people reported hearing gunshots and screaming at the condo complex.

Deputies located the victim, whose name has not been released, outside the doorway of a second-floor unit. He was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds, officials said.

The sheriff’s office said the gunman was captured on video from a doorbell camera, and deputies were able to get a “detailed suspect description.”

About 15 minutes later, a deputy spotted a person who matched the description and took them into custody nearby. The sheriff’s office also said a black backpack that was found discarded near a bike trail is believed to belong to the suspected shooter.

An investigation is ongoing.
