ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 23-year-old Gainesville woman has died after a crash in Escambia County on Monday.

The crash occurred around 1:55 a.m. when she was traveling eastbound on Gulf Beach Highway.

According to FHP, the woman drove onto the south shoulder, striking several signs and a utility pole.

Troopers say her car flipped on its side at Gulf Beach Highway and Bartow Avenue, then caught on fire.

Escambia County Fire Rescue arrived shortly after and immediately began working to extinguish the fire before rescuing the woman, according to ECFR.

Once the woman was removed, she was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

In an update Tuesday afternoon, FHP said the woman died at the hospital from her injuries.
