A52-year-old Pensacola woman was injured in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday morning in Escambia County, according to FHP.
Troopers say the crash occurred around 6 a.m. when a 23-year-old Pensacola woman driving aNissan sedan traveling eastbound on Gulf Beach Highway turned left into the path of the woman’s Lexus SUV heading westbound near the intersection of Atlanta Avenue.
The front of the Nissan collided with the front of the Lexus, causing both cars to propel off of the roadway, according to FHP.
Troopers say the Lexus struck autility pole and street sign, while the Nissan veered into the woods along the shoulder of Gulf Beach Highway.
The driver of the Lexus was transported by EMS to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to FHP.
Troopers say the driver of the Nissan ran away from the crash scene.
24-year-old Karen Fernandez was found and arrested around 10:45 a.m. after being identified as the Nissan driver who ran from the crash, according to FHP.
Troopers say she was subsequently arrested for having no driver’s license, a felony charge, and for leaving the scene of a crash with injuries.
She is currently being held in Escambia County Jail on charges of Hit and Run and moving traffic violation with a 3,000 bond.
