A car chase that started in Pasco County ended in Hernando County with a fatality early Thursday morning, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office announced.
A Dodge Charger, driven by a 25-year-old Spring Hill man was traveling north speeding and changing lanes on Mariner Boulevard when a Ford Mustang driven by a 48-year-old Spring Hill woman was traveling just ahead of the man.
The Dodge Charger was speeding and changing lanes because he had previously fled from Pasco Sheriff’s Deputies, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
As the Dodge Charger overtook the Ford Mustang, the Charger lost control and hit the curb near Lindsey Drive before redirecting into the lane and colliding with the rear of the Mustang.
The Mustang rotated and stopped along the southbound shoulder as the Charger rotated north before colliding with a concrete retaining wall at the entrance of Seven Hills Plaza, FHP said.
The driver of the Charger was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
The man was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
The woman was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.
