26-year-old motorcyclist killed in Lantana crash

LANTANA, Fla. (CBS12) — A 26-year-old motorcyclist has died following a crash with a car that failed to heed a no-turn signal in Lantana.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) crash report states that on Friday at around 3:15 p.m., a woman driving a Chevrolet was heading north on South Dixie Highway in Lantana and approaching the intersection at East Central Boulevard attempting to make a left turn.

The report states that a 26-year-old man driving a motorcycle was traveling southbound on South Dixie Highway, approaching the same intersection as the Chevrolet.

Both vehicles had a green traffic signal, but there was a red “no left turn” sign for northbound traffic due to a passing train near the intersection. PBSO reported that, unfortunately, the Chevrolet driver did not heed the no-turn signal and attempted to make a left turn.

According to officials, in doing so, she pulled into the path of the motorcyclist, who had the right of way. The motorcycle collided with the Chevrolet’s passenger side.

The 26-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead on scene by officials.
