29-year-old female passenger dies, 1-year-old passenger hurt after truck hits road barrier: Florida Highway Patrol

A 29-year-old woman died Sunday morning after a truck she was traveling in slammed into a crash barrier near Riverside Avenue and the Acosta Expressway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to FHP, a 1-year-old child and a 38-year-old man, the driver, were also hurt in the crash.

FHP said the truck was traveling southbound on the exit ramp to the Acosta Bridge from Riverside Avenue within Duval County just before noon.

While on the exit ramp, the driver attempted to merge into the northbound travel lanes of Riverside Avenue toward Water Street, but while changing lanes, the front right of the truck struck an impact attenuator, or crash barrier, in between the northbound and southbound lanes, FHP said.

The driver and the child were taken to the hospital for treatment for minor injuries, FHP said. The woman, who FHP said was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.
