29-year-old killed; 2 others seriously injured after crashing into tree on US-17 in Duval County

A 29-year-old Fernandina man was killed and two others were seriously injured after a crash on US-17 in Duval County early Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 12:07 a.m. on Monday.

Troopers said an SUV was traveling south on US-17 roughly a quarter mile south of Lankford Avenue at the time of the crash.

A crash report states the vehicle traveled across the northbound lane of US-17 and onto the east shoulder before crashing into a tree.

The 21-year-old Fernandina woman driving the vehicle and a 60-year-old Fernandina woman riding in the vehicle both suffered serious injuries in the crash. The 29-year-old man died from his injuries.

All three individuals were not wearing seatbelts, according to a crash report.
