Three people were hospitalized early Monday morning after a BMW overturned while the driver was fleeing from Florida Highway Patrol troopers as they tried to conduct a traffic stop on the Palmetto Expressway, authorities said.
According to FHP Lt. C, troopers attempted to stop a the driver of a silver BMW for excessive speeding around 4:13 a.m. on southbound State Road 826 near Northwest 47th Avenue.
The driver refused to stop, prompting troopers to initiate a pursuit, C said.
Authorities said the driver attempted to exit the highway onto Northwest 154th Street but failed to negotiate a curve.
The BMW veered off the roadway and down a shoulder embankment, where it struck a culvert drain and overturned, C said.
According to C, a marked FHP patrol vehicle also traveled down the embankment and collided with the BMW.
All three occupants of the BMW suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, authorities said.
The FHP trooper involved in the crash was not injured.
Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the BMW’s occupants or provide information about possible charges.
