Three people are in custody after a police pursuit escalated into the subjects firing shots at officers.
Fort Lauderdale Police responded to the area of Lauderdale Manors on Northwest 15th Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.
According to police, the subjects fired shots at officers after a brief pursuit. The officers weren’t hurt and did not fire back.
The subjects got back inside their car and the pursuit continued until the subjects stopped in the 16th Avenue Sunrise Boulevard and bailed out of the car.
7News cameras captured bullet holes in a bystander’s car.
Indar Imrit, the driver, had no idea his car had gotten shot.
“I didn’t know my car get hit,” he said.
Imrit said he found out about his car when he walked out to get something from it and officers told him to back away from the car because it was a crime scene.
“If I was sitting there I’m sure I’d get shot,” he said. “It’s bad. Yeah it’s bad.”
Officers were able to apprehend the three subjects involved.
7News cameras captured a red undercover police truck that crashed into a white Mercedes.
Witnesses said they were alarmed when they saw the police presence.
“I was startled to say the least,” said a man.
Meantime, during the pursuit, a police vehicle crashed into a civilian car in Northwest Sixth Street and Northwest Ninth Avenue. Two officers were transported to Broward Health Medical Center with minor injuries and are expected to be OK.
The driver of the car is also OK.
Due to the circumstances, westbound traffic on Sunrise Boulevard is closed between the 1500 and 1600 blocks. Officials are diverting drivers in the area through back roads.
An investigation is underway to determine what led up to the incident.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office is helping Fort Lauderdale Police with this investigation.
