Traffic is being rerouted Thursday morning after a two-vehicle crash outside the Indian River Mall in Vero Beach.
The crash happened along State Road 60 near Heldon Place. Eastbound traffic is blocked at the Chick-fil-A while crews work at the scene.
Indian River County Fire Rescue and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash.
A CBS12 News crew at the scene saw a woman and a young child taken away on stretchers, while another man was being evaluated by first responders. A witness told CBS12 News they heard a loud bang before seeing a white vehicle overturned on its roof.
Fire rescue officials said three people from the two vehicles were injured. Two patients were designated as trauma alerts. A pediatric trauma patient was flown from a nearby landing zone, while two other patients were transported by ground to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital.
As of 8:45 a.m. Fire rescue said there were no fatalities.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not released the extent of the patients’ injuries, and the scene remains active Thursday morning.
