Officials explained the fight started inside Tipsy Bar & Grill when the suspected shooter fought a security guard before pulling out a gun.
Three people are recovering from injuries following a fight that escalated into a shooting at a restaurant located on Jacksonville’s Westside, officers said.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced at a news conference that it happened at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday at Tipsy Bar And Grill on Edgewood Avenue South.
A woman and two men were reportedly shot at multiple times. One of the men shot was a security guard working at the restaurant, JSO said.
An investigation revealed that the fight started inside the restaurant when the suspect fought with the security guard before pulling out a gun and shooting.
Another security guard tackled the suspect to the ground and held him until officers arrived and took him into custody, JSO said.
The three who were shot were taken to a hospital for treatment and are expected to recover.
The suspected shooter and the three who were shot are all reportedly in their 20s.
This is not the first time JSO has responded to a shooting at the bar this year; two men were shot outside after closing on Oct. 26, according to police.
Management at Tipsy sent the following statement to First Coast News following the most recent incident:
“No one wants something like this to happen at their business. We have police outside, we have security; at this time we would like for the police investigation to conclude before we make any further comment.”
Officers are reviewing surveillance video and speaking to witnesses to learn more about what led up to the shooting. They believe this is an isolated incident.
