Three people were killed in a head-on crash in Polk County on Saturday evening, according to a news release.

Polk County deputies said the deadly crash happened in unincorporated Lake Wales on State Road 60 East around 9:50 p.m.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Ford Flex being driven by 22-year-old Winter Haven woman was heading west on State Road 60 East, east of CR 630, traveling behind a blue Kia van occupied by visitors from England.

Deputies said the Flex entered the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass the Kia when it struck a Ford F-150 that was traveling east, head-on.

A 3-year-old in the F-150 that was strapped into his car seat in the backseat of the truck survived the crash is expected to make a full recovery.
