Three people were killed Thursday night in a four-vehicle crash on State Road 100 near Bardin Road, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The crash shut down both directions of State Road 100 for several hours.
The people killed were a 64-year-old Alachua man who was driving one sedan, and a 23-year-old Orlando man and 26-year-old Orlando man who were driving and riding in a second sedan, respectively.
According to FHP, the first sedan was traveling east on State Road 100 when its driver crossed into the westbound lane while attempting to pass two pickup trucks. The sedan collided head-on with a westbound sedan occupied by the two men in their 20s, then struck one of the pickup trucks.
The first sedan and pickup truck traveled off the paved portion of the road and down a southern embankment. The sedan overturned several times before coming to rest on its side, the report said.
The driver of the other pickup truck, a 46-year-old Palatka man, suffered minor injuries. A 24-year-old pickup truck driver and his 27-year-old passenger, both from Moultrie, Georgia, were not injured.
