3-year-old boy dies after being hit by Jeep in Englewood Walmart parking lot

A 3-year-old boy has died after being hit by a Jeep in the parking lot of an Englewood Walmart, Tuesday night.

The incident happened at 8:25 p.m. at the Walmart along South McCall Road near Winchester Boulevard.

The crash happened as the boy’s mother was putting her infant into their car, which was parked next to the Jeep. That’s when the boy walked directly in front of the vehicle and stood still.

Troopers said the driver of the Jeep, a 27-year-old woman, drove forward from the parking space, turned right, and hit the 3-year-old, who was still standing in front of the Jeep.

The child was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where he later died.

Video from the scene showed crime scene tape wrapped around the parking area in front of the home and the pharmacy section of the store, with the yellow Jeep at the center of the investigation.

AAA reports that 73 million Americans are traveling for the holidays, including more than 4 million in Florida, leading to packed stores and considerably more pedestrians in parking lots.
