A 35-year-old Pensacola man was seriously injured Tuesday morning when a Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) trash truck and a log hauling semi-truck collided.

It happened around 7:45 a.m. on Highway 97 near Howell Road.

According to FHP, the ECUA truck — driven by a 35-year-old Pensacola man with his 35-year-old passenger — was traveling north on Highway 97 initiating a left turn onto Howell Rd.

Meanwhile, an empty log hauling semi-truck — driven by a 32-year-old Brewton man — was traveling north on Highway 97 approaching Howell Rd. when it initiated a pass in a marked passing zone, resulting in a collision.

The passenger of the ECUA trash truck was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with serious, non life-threatening injuries.
