A chaotic drive in Pompano Beach sent a Tesla barreling into several vehicles before it careened into a parked pickup truck, leading deputies to take four people into custody and search for a fifth person.

7Skyforce hovered above the red Tesla and the black GMC Sierra in the parking lot of a building in the Garden Isles neighborhood, near the 1500 block of East Atlantic Boulevard, a few blocks west of Federal Highway, at around noon on Wednesday.

“They had blasted right into the side of it,” said Nathan Klutznick, the owner of the Sierra.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, at around 11 a.m., a deputy had witnessed a crash involving the Tesla and an unoccupied white Jetta in the area of 200 East Atlantic Boulevard.

Investigators said the driver of the Tesla sped away, hitting several other parked vehicles a short distance away before crashing into the Sierra.

“They hit maybe one or two other vehicles before they landed on my truck, which ended their little short chase,” said Klutznick.

Klutznick told 7News he went outside after hearing a loud commotion outside of his job.

“I heard a loud screeching noise and a ‘Bang,’ then saw some youths running through our parking lot,” said Klutznick.

He said he was stunned to hear the suspected youths laughing as they ran from the scene.

“I was in a bit of a shock at first just ’cause I heard the noise and a couple of the kids were laughing as they ran through the parking lot,” said Klutznick.

Authorities said five people inside the Tesla bailed out. Deputies were able to locate and detain four of them, but the fifth subject remains on the run.

A 7News crew saw deputies with long guns and K-9 units searching the neighborhood, as the investigation continues.

Despite the headache of finding his truck wrecked, Klutznick said he’s relieved nobody was harmed.

“Very frustrating, but I’m glad that no one was hurt, you know, you can get your truck fixed, you can repair any property damage. Is it what I wanna come deal with when I’m at the office? No, but I’m very happy that me and no one on our staff or location got hurt,” said Klutznick.

So far, authorities have not identified the individuals that have been detained or what charges they may be facing.
