A 4-year-old, who troopers said wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from a car and died during a crash.
The incident happened at 3:50 a.m. on Nov. 16 when a 42-year-old man was driving a Toyota Tacoma northbound on the Suncoast Parkway, north of State Road 50. He lost control, and the car swerved into the grass shoulder.
The man then tried to turn back onto the highway but over-corrected and entered the median and flipped the car several times, according to a news release.
As the truck overturned, an unrestrained 4-year-old boy was ejected and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he died three days later, according to troopers.
There were four other passengers in the car, including a 5-year-old boy with minor injuries, a 27-year-old man with minor injuries, a 28-year-old man with minor injuries and a 35-year-old man who was seriously hurt, officials said.
The driver of the truck also had minor injuries and was hospitalized.
