A fire that engulfed a 40-foot boat at a dock in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea early Wednesday morning is considered suspicious, according to Pompano Beach Fire Rescue.
Firefighters responded shortly after 6 a.m. to reports of a boat fire behind 264 S. Tradewinds Ave.
When crews arrived, they found a 40-foot Carver boat fully engulfed in flames, first responders said.
They said firefighters immediately began working to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby boats and surrounding property.
Crews were able to bring the fire under control and contain the flames to the affected boat, according to PBFR.
No civilians or firefighters were injured.
After extinguishing the fire, crews remained at the scene to make sure it was fully out and address any remaining hot spots.
“The Pompano Beach Fire Marshal is investigating the origin and cause of the fire,” PBFR officials said in a news release.
Officials said that given the circumstances surrounding the blaze, the fire is “currently considered suspicious.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
