A driver was arrested over the weekend following a five-car crash in Sanford, according to the police department.
In a release, police said they responded to the crash on Saturday at the intersection of 25th Street and Park Avenue.
According to police, the crash was caused by TL, 41, who had been driving east along 25th Street.
“As L approached vehicles stopped at the traffic light at 25th Street and Park Avenue, Lambert failed to stop and hit one of the stopped vehicles,” the release reads. “This triggered a chain reaction crash involving three additional vehicles.”
Investigators said that L was issued a citation for the crash, though police also began looking into reports from witnesses that L had gotten out of his vehicle immediately after the crash and stashed a bag in some nearby bushes.
The bag was later recovered, and detectives discovered that it held methamphetamines, the release reveals.
In addition, police announced that Lambert had left a 7-year-old child unattended in the car while trying to hide the drugs.
“A 9mm handgun was also located in the glove compartment, easily accessible within the vehicle,” the release continues.
