5 people shot at large gathering in Arlington, including 16-year-old, JSO says

Five people were shot early Saturday morning at a large gathering in Arlington, including a 16-year-old, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Police said at around 3 a.m., officers reported to the 1200 block of Arlingwood Avenue in reference to a shooting.

There was a large gathering with about 20 people. JSO said an argument happened between two groups at the house, leading to a shooting where five people were hit.

Two women in their early 20s had non-life-threatening wounds to the thigh and the arm; two men in their early 20s were both shot in the leg; and a 16-year-old was shot once in the back, also non-life-threatening, JSO said.

All were taken to the hospital and multiple people were detained.

Two neighbors said this is the second time an incident has happened at that house, which they said is a short-term rental and they’re concerned for their safety.

“I have a family too and there are kids around and it’s frustrating to watch. I just want to advocate for my community and my neighborhood,” Eunice Haga said.

Alicia Davis who lives next door to the short-term rental said since the first shooting at the home, she doesn’t let her children play outside after dark.

“ I have six children here,” Davis said. “This is just coming to a point where is it going to have to take one of my children to get shot in order for them to shut this down at this point? Because that’s where I’m at. “

News4JAX reached out to Airbnb with the women’s concerns.

The company replied saying:

We were saddened to learn of this incident and we are supporting the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office with their investigation. Airbnb bans disruptive parties, and we condemn this senseless act of gun violence.  We are focused on supporting the host of this listing and have suspended the account of the guest who booked this reservation while the Sheriff’s investigation continues .We are in touch with neighbors. We are unaware of previous shootings at this property during Airbnb reservations.Airbnb Spokesperson
