5-year-old boy drowns in SW Miami-Dade pool

Tragedy struck at a Southwest Miami-Dade home when a 5-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool.

Miami-Dade Police units responded to reports of a possible drowning of a child at a home near the 14000 block of Southwest 168th Terrace, just before 7:40 p.m., Thursday.

“Hoped that nothing tragic like that would happen,” said a neighbor. “My neighbor that administered the CPR, both of us being parents, I know she sounded a little distraught with the idea, we weren’t sure whether that little boy made it or not, he’d been taken by rescue.”

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue also responded to the scene and airlifted the victim to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition. Despite best efforts from first responders, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The boy’s family is asking for privacy as they grieve.

Detectives continue to investigate and are working to determine whether or not any charges will be filed.
