5-year-old struck by car in North Miami residential neighborhood

Police are investigating after a child was struck by a car in North Miami.

It happened Tuesday afternoon along the 800 block of Northeast 138th Street.

Officers and first responders rushed to the scene after loved ones called 911.

The victim is a 5-year-old boy, according to family members.

He was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution as police said the boy had no visible injuries.

Local 10 News has learned the child was in the neighborhood visiting his grandmother and, according to police, was chasing a scooter into the street.

Family members said he came out from behind a parked car and that is when he was hit.

The driver, a woman, remained at the scene and spoke with investigators. Police have not said whether she will face any charges.
