51-year-old man from Keystone Heights dies after medical episode while driving

A driver having a “medical episode” died in a crash on I-295 at Pritchard Road Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver, a 51-year-old man from Keystone Heights, was traveling southbound when the medical episode occurred, FHP said.

The victim drove onto the paved median in the middle of the road and then onto the grass median.

Two other cars were in the inside lane in front of the victim. He struck them, then ended on the grass median and hit a metal guardrail.

FHP did not say whether he died from his injuries or from the medical episode.
