A 54-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a pickup truck Saturday night in Escambia County.

It happened around 7:15 p.m. on Highway 97 near Hendricks Lane.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist — a Stapleton, Alabama, man — was traveling north on Highway 97, while the truck was traveling south.

FHP says the motorcycle entered the southbound lane and collided head-on with the pickup truck. Both vehicles then ran off the roadway onto the shoulder.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on scene by EMS.

EMS transported the occupants of the truck — a 63-year-old Milton man and a 54-year-old Milton woman — to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Hwy 97 was shut down in both directions as crews worked the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
