Six children were taken to the hospital Wednesday after being thrown from a vehicle during a crash in Pasco County.
The crash happened just after 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 19 and State Road 52, near Hudson, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 33-year-old Hudson woman was heading north on U.S. 19 in a Nissan Cube when troopers said she failed to stop for a red light and struck another vehicle that was turning onto State Road 52.
The crash caused the woman’s Nissan Cube to overturn, and six children who were passengers in the vehicle were thrown onto the roadway, according to authorities.
The children, ranging in ages between 5 and 9 years old, were all taken to area hospitals. Officials said their injuries were non-life-threatening.
The 33-year-old driver of the Nissan Cube was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers said the driver of the second vehicle, a 42-year-old Hudson man, suffered minor injuries and was not transported.
Portions of U.S. 19 were closed for several hours while investigators were on scene. The roadway was fully reopened at 1:13 p.m.
