6-year-old struck by car while walking to school in Fort Pierce


Authorities are investigating after a child was struck near a bus stop Wednesday morning in Fort Pierce.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Juanita Avenue and Essex Drive.

According to St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, the 6-year-old was hit by a car and flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center with minor injuries.

The spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office also states that “Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the vehicle was not at fault. … Sheriff Keith Pearson encourages parents to speak to their children about traffic safety and to look both ways when crossing the street.”

This is an active investigation.
