6-year-old struck, critically injured in Orange County

A 6-year-old was struck and critically injured Wednesday night while walking in an Orange County roadway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened on Reams Road near Legado Drive, north of Magic Kingdom.

The FHP said a 21-year-old woman was driving a 2007 Hyundai Sante Fe south on Reams Road and struck the boy, who “was walking on the roadway in an unknown direction.”

According to troopers, the boy was in the direct path of the vehicle, and the driver, who stayed at the scene, was unable to avoid him.

The boy was taken to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in critical condition.

The driver was not injured.

No other details have been released.
