A motorcyclist died Monday night after being rear-ended by a pickup truck in the westbound lanes on I-4 near mile marker 62 in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to FHP’s crash report, the motorcyclist was traveling behind a 2024 Volvo XC60 just after 7pm Monday in the inside lane when the Volvo and motorcycle began slowing for traffic ahead. The pickup truck, a 2023 Ford F150, failed to slow down and rear-ended the motorcycle.
According to the crash report, after striking the motorcycle the truck hit the rear of the Volvo, sending it into a 2023 Kia Sorrento and 2003 Honda CR-V.
The impacts of the crashes caused the pickup and motorcycle to become engulfed in flames.
The motorcyclist, a 60-year-old man from Haines City, was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Three passengers in the Volvo, including two 8-year-old boys, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The pickup truck driver, a 28-year-old man from Haines City, was uninjured along with the drivers of the Volvo, Kia and Honda.
All westbound lanes of I-4 were shut down due to the crash and during thew immediate investigation.
