60-year-old Uber driver killed, 2 Navy sailors seriously injured in Escambia County crash

A 60-year-old Pensacola man has died and two US Navy Sailors are seriously injured after a crash on Gulf Beach Highway and Navy Boulevard Saturday morning.

The man was driving for Uber in a Subaru sedan with two US Navy Sailors, a 28-year-old New York man, and a 22-year-old Iowa man as passengers around 4:05 a.m., according to FHP.

The release states he was headed Southbound through the intersection of Navy Boulevard and Gulf Beach Hwy with a green light.

A 19-year-old Pensacola woman driving a Hyundai sedan was headed Eastbound through the intersection of Navy Boulevard and Gulf Beach Hwy and ran a red light, according to multiple witnesses.

This caused the front of her car to crash into the right side of the Subaru, according to FHP.

The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both US Navy Sailors were transported by ground ambulance as trauma patients.

The driver of the Hyundai was also transported by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to FHP.

Florida Highway Patrol says the US Navy command from Pensacola NAS has been notified about the sailors, but next-of-kin notifications have not been made yet.

The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Investigators are handling the investigation.

No further details have been released.
