63-year-old Sarasota pedestrian dies after SUV crash on Bee Ridge Road

A 63-year-old Sarasota man is dead after being hit by a car on Bee Ridge Road and Belmont Boulevard Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In a press release, troopers said that the vehicle, an SUV, was traveling east on Bee Ridge Road in the center lane, approaching Bee Ridge Road.

The man, a pedestrian, was walking north from the south side of Bee Ridge Road, across the eastbound lanes with no crosswalk. He entered the direct path of the SUV and was hit, the release adds.

The man sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. There were no reported injuries for the driver.
