63-year-old woman killed after car overturns in crash with semi in Columbia County

 A woman died early Thursday morning after her car crashed with a semi and overturned in Columbia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to FHP, the crash happened around 6 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 47 and County Road 238, also known as Elim Church Road.

Troopers said a 63-year-old woman from Lake City was driving a sedan east on CR 238 and entered the intersection from a stop sign in front of a semi that was traveling southbound on SR 47.

The front of the semi-truck hit the left side of the sedan, causing both vehicles to overturn, according to FHP.

The driver of the sedan died at the scene, FHP said.

According to the FHP report, the woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the semi, a 33-year-old man from Lake City, was not injured, the report states.

FHP said the crash investigation is ongoing.
