A 64-year-old woman has died after being struck by a vehicle on Saturday, causing her to be thrown into the air before landing on the pavement, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
According to PBSO’s crash report, a 2009 Honda Pilot was traveling west on Lucerne Avenue when it came to a stop at the red traffic signal at the intersection of Dixie Highway. Around the same time, Karen Pietrillo was attempting to cross the intersection of Lucerne Avenue and Dixie Highway.
When the traffic signal turned green, Pietrillo entered the crosswalk and began traveling north across the street, PBSO says. That’s when the Honda traveled through the intersection and crashed into Pietrillo, the sheriff’s office says.
The collision caused Pietrillo to be thrown into the air and land on the pavement. PBSO says the Honda came to a stop on Lucerne Avenue following the collision, while Pietrillo came to a rest lying face down.
Due to her injuries, she was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where she was declared deceased, the sheriff’s office says.
