A tragic crash in Casselberry claimed the life of a 65-year-old Orlando man Friday afternoon, leaving witnesses shaken and a community in mourning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:31 p.m. on April 10, 2026, at the intersection of Lake Drive and Mary Drive.
Troopers say a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Lake Drive when the driver failed to properly negotiate a curve while approaching Mary Drive.
The vehicle veered off the roadway, crossed onto the median, and struck a tree, quickly becoming engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders transported the driver to AdventHealth Altamonte Springs, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Witnesses described the harrowing moments following the crash.
Robert Vaught, who was driving nearby at the time, said the scene was difficult to process.
“It was tough, it was pretty tough to watch,” Vaught said. “I saw the Honda Accord engulfed in flames.”
Vaught said the violent nature of the crash left him deeply shaken.
“I was pretty scared for the guy,” he added.
Another witness, Marco Nunos, saw the crash unfold in real time and immediately rushed to help.
“I saw him coming from this direction, and I saw him losing control,” Nunos said. “He hit the first tree and then landed on the other tree there.”
Without hesitation, Nunos sprang into action.
“I broke the window and got him out,” he said.
Nunos then began performing CPR on the driver until paramedics arrived. Despite his efforts and those of emergency responders, the driver later died at the hospital.
Both Nunos and Vaught expressed their heartbreak over the loss.
“I pray for the family and hope that they get help — that they get the help they need,” Vaught said.
Florida Highway Patrol officials say the crash remains under investigation as they work to determine exactly what led to the deadly incident.
