A 70-year-old man remains hospitalized after a violent hit-and-run crash that was caught on surveillance video in West Little River.

The crash happened at around 8:42 p.m. along Northwest 84th Street and Northwest 18th Avenue, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

According to an arrest report, 19-year-old H was behind the wheel of a black Dodge Challenger when he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided into a white Infiniti QX4. That Infiniti then hit a tree.

The Challenger kept going north until it hit a car parked by a sidewalk, the arrest report states. H got out of the Challenger and fled on foot, jumping a fence into a home before he was caught.

Five people were hurt, including two people who were “lightly trapped in their vehicle,” fire rescue said. All of them were taken to the hospital.

One man, identified by his nephew as 70-year-old D, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

D, known to the community as “Moon,” was less than a block from his front door when he was struck and suffered “spinal fractures, internal bleeding,” his nephew said.

Though his injuries are severe, Dzz is expected to survive.

Video shows the moment of impact, when a tire goes flying and the Challenger eventually comes to a stop. It also appears to show a person leaving the Challenger and jumping the fence.

According to deputies, H asked “is my brother OK” once he was apprehended. He also said his phone was in the car and admitted to driving the Challenger, the arrest report states.

H is charged with leaving the scene of a crash causing bodily injury.
