70-year-old woman shot in the neck in drive-by shooting in Escambia County

A high-speed chase took place on Scenic Highway after a 70-year-old woman was struck in the neck during a drive-by shooting on Erress Boulevard near Massachusetts Avenue Monday evening.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m.

The woman was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

The suspect’s car was located and fled from deputies.

After deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the car, three suspects exited the car and jumped off of the Highway 90 Bridge at Scenic Highway.

One suspect was injured, another was pulled from the water and detained, and the third suspect has not yet been located, according to deputies.

The sheriff held a press conference Tuesday morning with these major updates:

  • 19-year-old Jaquaris Ethridge charged with murder and attempted murder
  • second suspect — a 22-year-old man — died from injuries sustained in jump from bridge
  • third unknown suspect remains at large
  • K9 Streeter treated for injuries in jump from bridge and released from hospital
