A 71-year-old Pensacola man was killed Sunday night after he was struck by a minivan in Escambia County.

Troopers say the crash happened at about 9:13 p.m. at North Pace Blvd and West Lakeview Avenue.

Investigators said the pedestrian was struck by a minivan traveling southbound on State Road 292 (North Pace Blvd).

The minivan’s driver, a 65-year-old Pensacola man, was not injured, according to FHP.

Troopers say the driver told investigators the pedestrian was standing in the center turn lane and “jumped out towards his van as he passed.”

The pedestrian was taken to Baptist Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room, according to FHP.
