Authorities responded to the scene of a deadly single-vehicle crash along a dirt road off Oil Well Road in Charlotte County.
The crash happened at approximately 2:55 p.m. on Monday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 71-year-old Punta Gorda man was driving a Jeep Cherokee on Oil Well Road, east of Valhalla Drive.
He then traveled off the roadway and onto an unpaved shoulder down an embankment.
Troopers said the vehicle then rotated onto the roof and ended up in a canal. The man was pronounced dead on the scene by Charlotte County Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
