72-year-old driver killed in crash on US-27 in Lake County, troopers say

A 72-year-old man was killed in a crash in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 27 south of Ruby Red Boulevard.

According to an FHP crash report, a driver of a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, a 72-year-old man from Winter Haven, was traveling southbound on U.S. 27 when he “may have suffered a medical episode”.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the roadway to the right. The Jeep then collided with an electrical box and entered a ditch, troopers said.

Emergency responders transported the driver to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No other vehicles or injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation.
