8 Injured after SUV hits three school busses; FHP says

At 8:16 P.M. on Saturday night, the Florida highway patrol responded to a crash involving three school busses.

Once on scene, FHP reported an SUV has collided with a row of stopped school busses.

Upon collision with the first school bus, a chain reaction occurred, causing all three to collide. FHP says the car caught on fire.

In total, the busses were carrying 90 students and six adults.

Six school children from the busses were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the SUV was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and the two-year-old passenger of the SUV was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

ABC7 reached out to FHP for more information, they say the crash is still being investigated. Abc7 also reached out to Fort Pierce High School and St. Lucie County schools for more information, as this is where the busses came from.

ABC7 spoke to an employee of a nearby business who tells us what she saw as she was doing her closing shift.

“We were just closing, we were cleaning, but I turned my head and heard the sirens because our windows are super super big so we can see all the ambulances go by. So we saw the first ambulance show up and then we saw all the other ones show up, so we looked out the windows to see what was going on and that’s when we saw them extinguish the fire from the car. So yeah we scoped it out a little bit,” explains Gwen Dolyndsouza.
