8-year-old boy struck, killed by vehicle in Seminole County

A 8-year-old boy was struck and killed Saturday evening when a vehicle backed into him in Seminole County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the fatal crash happened around 7:45 p.m. at Orange Boulevard and Terra Bona Court, southwest of State Road 429 and I-4, near Sanford.

According to an FHP crash report, a Nissan NV van driven by a 57-year-old Sanford man was stopped and facing south in a private residential driveway off Orange Boulevard.

Troopers said the driver began reversing northward and failed to see the child behind the van. As a result, the back of the van struck the child, troopers said.

According to the report, the van’s driver took the child to the hospita, where the boy was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
