An 80-year-old man from North Fort Myers has been accused of suffocating a woman amid their shared struggles with health and financial woes to end her suffering.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) stated that on Sunday afternoon, deputies responded to a residence on Kaidon Lane in Herons Glen Golf and Country Club regarding a call for service from neighbors.
While en route, it was relayed to LCSO deputies that a male subject, later identified as Richard Sharf, had taken the life of a woman on scene and was threatening to take his own.
During the investigation, detectives uncovered the two were undergoing medical and financial hardships.
It was discovered that Scharf intended to put the victim out of suffering and suffocate her while she was asleep, the report stated.
