An 82-year-old Brevard County woman died Monday night in a head-on crash after briefly going the wrong way, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Around 8 p.m. Monday, the 82-year-old driver of a Mazda 6 was traveling westbound on State Road 46 when she made a left turn toward Sweetwater Court.
After making a U-turn, troopers say the Mazda attempted to travel east on State Road 46, but ended up in the westbound lane and collided with the front of a Nissan Rogue traveling westbound lane driven by a 31-year-old Sanford woman.
The 82-year-old driver — who was not wearing a seatbelt — was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The other driver was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
