98-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by Mercedes driven by 86-year-old man

Two elderly men were involved in a fatal incident Monday afternoon in Boynton Beach, where one man was struck by a car and pronounced dead just over three hours after the impact.

As the driver, 86-year-old George Rullman of Boynton Beach, traveled along a curve in the roadway of Summer Tree Drive, the pedestrian, 98-year-old George Fortier of Boynton Beach, was walking in the same area. For unknown reasons, the driver and his 2010 GLK 350 Mercedes collided into the victim, a crash report said.

Fortier was launched into the air, landing on the roadway, and was eventually taken to the Delray Medical Center. The crash occurred around 3:26 p.m., and he was pronounced dead by 6:55 p.m., according to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office report. His next of kin was notified.

Rullman was not injured from the impact and remained at the scene.
