Motorcyclist killed in crash with tree in Marion County

A 50-year-old Coral Gables man riding a motorcycle through Marion County was killed in a crash with a tree on Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 11:40 a.m. as the man traveled south on SE 180th Avenue Road, approaching SE 183rd Avenue Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the man failed to negotiate a curve to the left and exited the roadway. The front of the motorcycle then truck a tree, the report states, adding the man was pronounced dead at the scene

Troopers believe the man was not wearing a helmet during the crash.
