The Fort Myers Police Department is responding to a fatal bicycle crash that occurred on Palm Beach Boulevard.
FMPD confirmed the victim to be 14 years old. They say the bicyclist crossed Palm Beach Boulevard from the BP gas station side to the Shell gas station side and entered the path of a motorist. The bicyclist was not in a crosswalk.
Officers began redirecting traffic on the intersection of Palm Beach Boulevard and Van Buren Street at around 6:18 a.m. on Thursday.
Around 9:46 a.m., the caution tape was taken down, and the victim’s body left the scene.
Police confirmed that a vehicle had crashed into the teen bicyclist, killing them. The driver stayed on the scene to wait for police.
It remains unclear if any lanes were closed due to the crash.
