Gainesville man dies after crashing into a tree in Putnam County: Florida Highway Patrol

A 24-year-old Gainesville man was killed early Saturday morning when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash occurred around 3:39 a.m. on State Road 21, north of State Road 20. The driver lost control of his vehicle, went off the roadway, and hit a tree.

Putnam County Fire and Rescue responded and declared the driver dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed he was not wearing a seatbelt.
