A 38-year-old Summerfield man was killed Sunday in Sumter County after crashing into a vehicle he was trying to pass, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The fatal wreck happened around 6 p.m. on U.S. 301 near SE 180th Street.
The FHP said the Summerfield man was driving a Volkswagen Jetta south on U.S. 301 at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass a Dodge Charger driven by a 51-year-old Ocala man.
The front of the Jetta, however, collided with the Charger, sending both cars rotating into the center median before the Jetta overturned several times, according to the FHP.
The Jetta driver was ejected from the car and suffered fatal injuries, troopers said.
The Ocala man and his passenger, a 51-year-old Ocala woman, suffered minor injuries, the FHP said.
No other details have been released.
