An 87-year-old Cantonment woman was airlifted to a local hospital following a crash in Escambia County Sunday night.

Troopers say the incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. when the woman, driving a green pickup truck, was stopped in the paved median at the intersection of US Highway 29 and Chance Road.

According to FHP, the woman attempted to cross the highway, driving directly into the path of a 64-year-old Tennessee man traveling southbound in a red SUV.

Troopers say the SUV collided with the right side of the pickup truck, causing the truck to rotate clockwise and overturn onto its right side. The SUV continued southbound for approximately three feet after the impact.

The driver of the SUV and his 59-year-old passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to FHP.

The accident remains under investigation.
