1 dead, 1 injured in wrong-way crash on US-27 in Marion County

 A 27-year-old Florida man was killed and a 69-year-old man was seriously injured early Wednesday in a wrong-way, head-on crash on U.S. 27 in Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal two-vehicle wreck happened at 12:15 a.m. on U.S. 27, just east of NW 95th Avenue Road.

According to the FHP, a Miami man was driving in the wrong direction on U.S. 27 and crashed head-on with an oncoming SUV.

The Miami man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an FHP crash report.

The SUV driver, a Perry man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, troopers said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the crash report stated.

U.S. 27 was closed for about five hours before reopening.

No other details have been released.
