A man is dead after a deputy-involved shooting in Dade City on Tuesday night.
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office said around 8:25 p.m., deputies attempted to serve C J, 25, an ex parte order at a home near Rose Avenue. The order was issued by a court at the request of his family due to threats.
PSO said P was inside the home and would not respond to multiple attempts at contact.
Deputies then attempted to de-escalate the situation but eventually deployed pepper balls. Shortly after, PSO said P shot a gun multiple times at deputies, who then returned fire, hitting and killing P.
P died at the scene. No deputies were injured during the incident.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting, per protocol. The deputies who fired their guns were also placed on paid administrative leave.
PSO said there is no public safety threat, but the investigation is ongoing.
